Application

The OPDM optical programmable delay module is primarily used in high-precision optical systems and laboratory research, where precise timing control of optical signal delay is essential. Key application areas include:

∙ Telecommunications: The module is used for optical signal synchronization, testing delays in fiber optic lines, and simulating various delay conditions in network systems.

∙ Laboratory Research and Optical Experiments: OPDM is frequently applied in scientific research for controlling timing intervals in laser experiments, as well as in studies of quantum optics and photonics, where precise phase and timing control of optical signals is crucial. Such equipment are of particular is applied for stochastic cooling systems, where they are used to synchronize a system's correction pulse and in a feedforward loop of optical comb filters.

Measurement Systems: OPDM is used in equipment testing and calibration, where generating reference delays is necessary to evaluate the performance of other optical devices.

∙ Aerospace Systems: OPDM is used in communication and sensing systems requiring reliable and accurate synchronization of optical signals under high-reliability demands.

With remote control capabilities, high precision, and operational stability, OPDM is suitable for a wide range of applications where exact timing control and management flexibility are critical.

Description

Optical programmable delay module, such as the OPDM-64, provides precise optical delay in range 0 to 64 ns, with a resolution of 1 fs. It consists of a 500ps continuous delay and 8 bits of step delay.

The instrument has low optical insertion loss and reduced delay latency of only 12.5 ns. A unique feature of the instrument is an internal equalization of delay and attenuation. Together with temperature compensation of the delay it results in nearly
constant insertion loss and delay accuracy over the whole delay and temperature ranges.
